Tan like a Kardashian!

May 3, 2017

1.Preparation. To get the best result form your spray tan you should avoid very oily products 24hrs before you tan especially things like aromatherapy oils and heavy body lotions. Shaving should be done 24hrs prior and waxing 48hrs prior to tanning. You should not be wearing deodorant for your tan and your skin should be free of all products with the exception of a barrier cream on dry areas which your tanner will apply for you. The best tans are applied to the skin when it is essentially a blank canvas. You should wear dark loose clothing to your tanning appointment.

2. A good spray tanner will go through a thorough consulation with you before your spray tan. They will take into consideration your lifestyle, how you tan naturally, your skincare routine an your previous experiences with spray tanning. If you are new to tanning it would be wise to start with a lighter tan so that you can see if you like it. After all, you should be wearing the tan it shouldn't be wearing you!

3. Tan should ideally go on in light layers for the most even result. You can also ask your spray tanner about body contouring to customise your tan to suit you.

You should wait for the amount of time your therapist tells you before showering off your tan. This will allow the colour to develop properly.  You should moisturise with a product that supports the tan brand being used twice daily. The St Tropez tan enhancing body moisturiser is perfect for this. By using the correct product you can extend the life of your tan by up to 3 days. You should also use the St Tropez tan enhancing body polish bi-weekly to ensure no streaks and an even fade. When you do shower you should set the temperature on your shower lower than you would usually as hot water will strip it faster. You should also be aware that swimming, steam rooms or saunas should be avoided whilst wearing your tan as these things will kill your colour. If you go to the gym at all you may want to talc any areas that usually get sweaty, pay particular attention to the creases of you elbows and behind your knees or you tan can wear off in these areas in a diamond shaped pattern. Certain cleaning products and body products/ cosmetics can affect the life of your tan so it is worth checking with your therapist if you are at all unsure.
